Wellington Phoenix's Vukovic heading to Perth

Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Danny Vukovic will leave the club at the end of the season after signing a deal with Perth Glory.

The 25-year old gloveman is currently with the Phoenix until the end of the 2010/11 A-League season after having a dream move to Europe cut short by Turkish club Konyaspor back in August.

Vukovic has signed a three-year deal with the Glory commencing next term and was delighted to have sorted out his future after some uncertainty in recent times.

"They've offered me a good contract over there for three years. There's a bit of security there and I can go over there and settle down with my girlfriend,'' he said.

"I know the coach well. He's a good coach and ready to do some good things with the club. It's an exciting time for me when I go over there but I'm just focusing on Wellington Phoenix at the moment.''

Vukovic has been competing for the number one position with New Zealand international Mark Paston at Wellington and although he admits the club threw him a lifeline when he was in need, he feels that first team football may be more achievable in Perth.

"I'm thankful I've got a contract in the first place. I was thrown a lifeline to come here and I'll be forever grateful for that,'' said the former Central Coast shot-stopper.

''Sitting on the bench, I said I wasn't used to it, but it's part of professional football.

''You have to compete for a place everywhere. You can't really expect to play week in week out. You have to be performing.

''It was more just an opportunity for a change and a chance to get back to Australia.''

Following Paston's serious knee injury, sustained on the weekend, Vukovic is set to step into the Phoenix first team for the remainder of the season.
