Wellington Phoenix striker Paul Ifill has extended his contract at the club by a further two years.

The English-born Barbados international only joined the Phoenix in July on an initial one-year deal with the option of an extra year but has opted to activate that option and add an extra year on.

That means that Ifill, who has enjoyed a successful career in England with Millwall, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace, will remain with Wellington until at least the end of the 2011/12 season.

The 30-year old has been enjoying some good recent form for the Phoenix and said the decision to re-sign was an easy one.

"It was very straight-forward and there was very little to talk about. It wasn't a case of more money; it was more about securing more time in Wellington and I'm really pleased that it's done," Ifill said.

"There were other clubs in the market but the Phoenix showed faith in me and, given my injury record in England, brought me here. I want to reward the club for that faith by staying in Wellington and playing a role in getting the team into the playoffs this season.

"When the club let me know they wanted me there was only one place I was going to be."

The Phoenix enjoyed a solid 3-0 win over Newcastle Jets midweek and will be looking to back that up when they host the Perth Glory at Westpac Stadium on Sunday.
