Wellington Phoenix's Herbert eyeing improvement in attacking third

Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert is looking for his strike force to quickly come together in Saturday's pre-season with the Brisbane Roar in Hamilton.

Herbert has brought in Dylan Macallister from the Central Coast Mariners for the upcoming A-League season and wants to see how he works with established strikers Paul Ifill and Chris Greenacre.

"Dylan's looked very good and is certainly the type of player the club's been looking for in terms of a target man up front. I'll be monitoring things closely to see how Dylan, Chris and Paul can combine in that front third," Herbert said.

He also said the first-ever match in Hamilton was a great opportunity to push football into another region of New Zealand.

"I think it'll be great," he added. "It's an area that I wouldn't say has been overlooked (in terms of football) but hasn't had the opportunities in the past. Hopefully we'll get a big crowd off the back of what happened at the World Cup and the club's glad to be getting out and about around the country."
