Wellington Phoenix will more than likely not play in their home town until the A-League season commences.
The capital-based club will play just once against another A-League in the pre-season on home soil and the match will be in Christchurch.
With the cancellation of the Pre-Season Cup and the proposed match against English club Wigan not going ahead, Phoenix will only play champions Melbourne Victory in the pre-season.
"Unfortunately Wigan have decided to stay in Europe, but I can understand their decision," said Phoenix chief Tony Pignata.
"We've had a lot of offers from English premier league clubs but . . . the economic climate plays a part. We've always said it has to be financially viable for us.
"We're talking with Christchurch about going down there and doing a training camp, maybe playing a Canterbury selection and Melbourne Victory," Pignata adde.
"We were very well received there last year."
