Wellington Phoenix intent on securing Ifill

Wellington Phoenix are intent on securing the services of striker Paul Ifill. The 30-year old former Millwall, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace man produced his best performance in a Phoenix shirt on the weekend, setting up three goals and scoring one himself in the 6-0 demolition of Gold Coast United, and the club have moved quickly to try and extend his stay in the New Zealand capital.

"There is no question that Paul has been an outstanding pick up for us," Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata told au.fourfourtwo.com today. "I think the A-League needs players of his calibre and he certainly provides that X-factor.

"We are sitting down with him and we would hope to sort out something with him."

Ifill's current contract is for one year with the option of a second but the Phoenix are likely to offer him a three-year deal as they go about securing all of their key players.
