Wellington Phoenix chief Pignata expecting sell-out

Wellington Phoenix chief executive Tony Pignata is expecting a sell-out crowd for the second final next weekend.

Tickets for the minor semi-final against the Newcastle Jets at Westpac Stadium on March 7 went on sale for club member yesterday with 3000 sold in no time at all and a long line at the club's store led Pignata to believe that the Phoenix would attract a larger crowd than the 24,000 that turned up for the thrilling penalty shootout win over Perth Glory on Sunday.

"We'll sell it out, if the stadium members come in," he said.

"The tickets have gone crazy, all the good seats are starting to go already and the Fever zone is almost gone. People need to get in quick, every one of those 24,278 will be back and bringing friends and I'm sure others around the country will be here."

The Phoenix and New Zealand football in general has enjoyed a good run in the past six months and a huge crowd to see a Wellington win would be even better for the sport in the island nation.
