Welbeck admits Man Utd not good enough in Champions League

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck admits they haven't been good enough in the Champions League so far this season.

United must have been rubbing their hands when they were drawn in Group C against Benfica, Basel and Romanians Otelul Galati.

But after two games they are third with two points - and cannot afford many more nights like Tuesday.

England starlet Welbeck, who has one senior cap to date, said: "It's the Champions League for a reason and everyone who has qualified are difficult opponents.

"You have to give it your all every game.

"People were saying it looked an easy group but we knew no match would be easy. With it being Manchester United, other teams would be stepping up their game, which Basel showed here.

"They did really well so full credit to them.

"We made life hard for ourselves and you can't afford to do that in the Champions League."
