Weimann to slot in as Villa deal with Bent absence

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish will open the door for Andreas Weimann now that Darren Bent is out for the rest of the season.

Bent ruptured ankle ligaments in the weekend's scoreless draw with Wigan Athletic and is unlikely to play again this campaign with McLeish ready to give a chance to 20-year old Austrian striker Weimann who has been biding his time.

"It's been difficult for Andi. How do you drop Darren Bent and say 'There you go Andi - Benty you're out?'" McLeish said.

"It's not been that simple - but Weimann is definitely knocking on the door now. He is hungry, wants to score, has a great attitude and he's got clever movement.

"Is he lightning fast? Maybe that's not his strength. But certainly he's got that sharpness. I think he will have a good career in the game and hopefully he can light up his career at Villa Park. "
