Wednesday fans under scrutiny by FA for pitch encroachment

The FA are investigating crowd trouble at the League One clash involving Sheffield Wednesday fans during the 2-1 defeat at Walsall on Boxing Day. A number of Owls fans went over the perimeter barrier and onto the pitch when Ryan Lowe opened the scoring at the Banks's Stadium, causing referee David Coote to delay the restart of the game until they were cleared.

A statement on Sheffield Wednesday's website said: "The club will take action against anyone identified as involved in the incident at Walsall, which will include bans from attending Sheffield Wednesday matches.

"Supporters are also reminded that following incidents at the Crystal Palace match at Hillsborough in May 2010, the club avoided disciplinary action.

"However, further incidents of this nature could see sanctions being imposed against SWFC and we urge all supporters not to risk the reputation of themselves or the club by any breach of ground regulations."
