Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine lauded Neil Mellor after his hat-trick in the 4-1 win at MK Dons. The former Liverpool man now goes into double figures for the season.

Irvine said: "Neil has been doing a lot of hard work which enables him to get chances.

"For me, the biggest part of his game is his effort and all the running that he does.

"He works so hard to get into positions to give himself a chance and he showed what a good finisher he is, which I have said many times."
