We wanted to gain promotion for manager Howe - Bournemouth's Elphick

AFC Bournemouth skipper Tommy Elphick has revealed that manager Eddie Howe gave his squad a history lesson on the club's troubled past to inspire them to the promotion to the Premier League.

The 27-year old defender says Howe showed the team a video documenting the club's struggle with financial troubles and bankruptcy.

Elphick said: "In the first few weeks of pre-season the gaffer was quick to remind us of the struggles the club has been through in the past.

"He is always sitting us down and showing us inspirational videos and we had the most recent one on Sunday, which went through the while history and what we have done for the club.

"We all came out of their pretty emotional and after the results going for us on Saturday we knew we had the opportunity to grab it with both hands.

"We wanted to do it for Eddie and people who have been involved in the club for such a long time. It is such a great story.

"It hits home when you see the faces of the fans running on the pitch at the end of the game and how many lives we have affected and what we have to look forward to in the Premier League."
