Jamie Redknapp believes John Stones should be given the time and patience to become England's best centre-back.
The 22-year-old this week completed his much talked about move from Everton to Manchester City in a £47.5million deal.
Ahead of the new Premier League season, former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp picked out 10 players to follow during 2016/17 and selected Stones at number 10 accompanied by the following explanation.
“People are very quick to criticise Stones when he makes a mistake," he wrote for the Daily Mail.
“He is the best centre back this country has produced for a long time and we should let him fulfil his promise.
“He can thrive at Manchester City now he has made his £47.5m move from Everton, and I want Sam Allardyce to build England's defence around this hugely talented player."
