We reached our targets in signing Luiz and Alonso - Chelsea boss Conte

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admits he was able to successfully land two of his main transfer targets in the summer.

The Blues signed Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina and David Luiz from PSG for a combined fee of around £57million on deadline day.

The West Londoners managed to lure a quality left-back in Alonso while completing a surprise comeback for centre-half Luiz, who had left Stamford Bridge in 2014, and Conte suggests he managed to get the two players he set out to late in the summer window.

"We reached our targets, David Luiz and Marcos Alonso are two good signings for us," Conte told Chelsea TV.

"Now we have to work with them because I think they can improve our squad.

"We need to put them into our idea of football. Now we must work on our defensive situation and with the defensive line. We need to improve our physical and tactical condition."

Alonso and Luiz could both debut for Chelsea against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
