We deserve Champions League finish as we are now part of the project - Man City defender Sagna

Manchester City right-back Bacary Sagna claims that it is vital for the Citizens to play in the Champions League next season for the sake of their ongoing project.

City will drop out of the Premier League's Champions League places if arch rivals Manchester United manage to claim a win against West Ham United on Tuesday.

Then it will come down to the final fixture results which sees City head to Swansea City and United host Bournemouth as the fight for fourth position heats up.

However, the 33-year-old defender feels that City deserve to be in Champions League next season having made it through to the semi-finals of the 2015/16 edition.

Sagna said: "To me we deserve it. We gave it a lot. Of course we are not perfect, of course we could have done better, but to me we deserve to be in the Champions League places.

"It's a big project that we are part of. We have managed to reach the semi-final this season so that shows we are quite a good team. It's vital for us to be part of the Champions League."
