Liverpool defended poorly in Monday night's 3-0 loss to Manchester City according to manager Roy Hodgson.
The Reds were outplayed by Roberto Mancini's City throughout the 90 minutes but had a good chance to get a goal back when Joe Hart made a double save from David Ngog and Fernando Torres shots when the score was 2-0.
Although Hodgson said that piece of play could have changed the game, he admitted his side did not do enough in their defensive third against an efficient City outfit.
"I didn't think we were under the cosh to the extent 3-0 might suggest and I think we might consider ourselves unlucky with that wonderful double save by Joe Hart," said the Liverpool manager.
"But we defended poorly for the goals and they took their chances well and I thought they played solidly and strongly throughout.
"They took charge of the game and we were always fighting to get back into it.
"You just have to accept on a night like tonight they we were unable to produce the level of performance necessary to get a good result."
