Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he didn't let goalkeeper Shamal George take the penalty against Huddersfield Town out of respect for the opponent.
The 18-year-old was deployed in a striker role by Klopp after he ran out of substitutes to replace injured midfielder Lucas Leiva.
Travelling Liverpool fans implored the young goalkeeper to take the late penalty in the game, but ultimately it was Alberto Moreno who made it 2-0 from the spot in the 90th minute.
Klopp said after the game: "They told me from the bench after I'd organised the system with 10 [men] and they said, 'Come on, we have Shamal!'
"Even though it doesn't look like it all the time, for us these games are quite serious, so we don't want to make a joke of it! It's nice for the crowd but in no game in the world should we make funny decisions.
'If it's 4-0, 5-0, we can think about it, but even then it's a lack of respect for the opponent."
