Wayne Rooney has returned to light training at Manchester United.

The Sun says the striker has been doing light work at the gym in Carrington and the Reds expect Rooney to manage some outdoor running in the next few days.

The England and United skipper has been out since mid-February after injuring a ligament in his right knee.

United team mate Jesse Lingard has revealed that he expects Rooney to return imminently.

He said: “He should be back after the international break.

"We have a lot of players coming back. That's a massive boost for the squad."
