Watzke admits BVB scrambling to keep hold of Man Utd, Arsenal target Gundogan

Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke admits they're scrambling to secure Ilkay Gundogan to a new deal.

The Germany international has less than 16 months to run on his present contract and talks over a new agreement have stalled.

German press sources state Manchester United were in contact with Gundogan's camp last week, while he has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool.

Watzke conceded to Sport 1: "We want to extend Ilkay Gundogan's contract. Those who say otherwise are wrong. Of course we would like to extend him. But there is more to it.

"With Ilkay we will negotiate like Marco Reus: We can talk as much about him as anyone else, but we hope he stays with us."

He added: "I know that he feels fine with us. He's a great guy. We have been working together in a great way."
