Former Newcastle United midfielder Steve Watson is upbeat about the new season.
Newcastle are yet to make a summer signing.
But Watson told the Evening Chronicle: “I'm not one of these people who buys into the doom and gloom. I understand it but I am always somebody that thinks it is a new season so what is the point in going in with any negatives? Let's just look forward with a new manager.
“The owner came out and said what he said and you have to trust that. He's accepted he's made mistakes. And he's accepted this is the way of moving Newcastle forward.
“If he does it there is no reason why we can't climb the table, we have climbed it before."
