Watson happy to join McLeish for Birmingham "challenge"

New Birmingham City coach Andy Watson says Alex McLeish and his staff are excited by the challenge ahead at St Andrews.

Watson told the Daily Record: "You always like to leave something with a good feeling as it signifies you have done well. I feel that has been the case everywhere we have been up to now and hopefully it will be with Scotland.

"We lost against Italy but everybody realised we gave the best we could. We had a chance against the world champions but just fell short.

"I think the fans realise that Alex also gave everything and didn't shortchange them in any shape or form.

"But we are all looking forward to the challenge at Birmingham. This is a great opportunity for him although he looked long and hard at it before accepting. He had to weigh up nine months of inactivity before starting the World Cup qualifiers or whether to take up the chance to manage in the Premiership."
