Watford star Deeney: Man Utd skipper Rooney is still England's best striker

Watford's Troy Deeney has stated that Wayne Rooney remains the best striker in the current England national team.

Rooney has endured a subpar season so far this term and many believe that the United captain should be dropped from the England squad for the upcoming European Championships, especially with the likes of Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Dele Alli all flourishing.

However, Watford star Deeney does not agree with such an opinion and has stated that Rooney still remains the best attacking option England currently have at their disposal.

"I still think he's our best striker. I would [start Rooney]," Deeney told talkSPORT's Drivetime.

"He is one of the very few players we have in this country that can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and say 'we are going to go forward and attack here'.

"I think the only debate you should have is whether he is fit or not. He's never let the team down.

"How many games has he played for England? 109? You can only pick a handful out where he has let you down and I'd take those odds."
