Watford skipper Deeney has strong first impressions of Flores

Watford are back in pre-season training, this time under new coach Quique Sanchez Flores, who has reportedly made a big impression on Troy Deeney.

The club skipper, who has signed a five-year deal with the team, told Sky Sports News: "Before he came I didn't know too much about him, but since he has come in he has got my respect massively."

"He's very much on his job, he knows what we need and knows what he wants... I think that shows how good a person he is. Everyone knows their job straight away. "Sometimes the manager might have to earn that respect but he has got that instantly. He doesn't treat anyone differently and the work we have been doing has been real tough but really enjoyable."

Watford are preparing for a pre-season friendly with AFC Wimbledon on July 11 before embarking on a trip to Germany which will take in fixtures against SC Verl (July 15), Eintracht Braunschweig (July 17) and SC Paderborn (July 19).

The Hornets' first Premier League match takes place against Everton at Goodison Park on August 8.
