Watford’s Mariappa turns down Wigan, prefers Newcastle

Watford defender Adrian Mariappa has reportedly turned down the chance to speak with Wigan Athletic.

The Hornets and Latics had agreed a fee for the 25-year old but he has rejected a potential move to the DW Stadium, indicating that he wants to join Newcastle United.

Watford rejected a previous offer from the Magpies for Mariappa with Toon manager Alan Pardew confirming today that a second and final bid had been tabled and now it is up to the Championship club what happens to their centre-half.
