Lucas Neill says he is not anxious about whether or not he will receive a call-up to the Australian national team this week.
The 35-year old defender signed a short-term deal with Championship club Watford on Monday evening UK time ahead of Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou's squad selection announcement for next month's friendly with Ecuador in London.
Neill, who has been Australian skipper since October 2006, has not played club football since leaving J.League side Omiya Ardija in December and may be overlooked when Postecoglou names his squad for the March 5 friendly on Wednesday.
But the former Millwall, West Ham United, Blackburn Rovers and Everton man insists he is remaining calm regarding his chances of representing the Socceroos at a third-successive World Cup.
"He was going to announce the squad on Wednesday and he was going to get back to me on that situation," he told Fox Sports.
"He has to look at a lot of options at the moment because it's his last squad before he can pick his team for the middle of May, when the team meets up for the World Cup.
"I'm not going to read too much into it, whether I'm in or out.
"I know I need game time, as do a lot of other players who are just about to start a season. So there's no need for me to panic at the moment.
"I know the team put in a good performance when we played Costa Rica back in Sydney a few months ago. I'm hoping that's still in his memory when he comes to think about May."
National team business aside, Neill admitted on Twitter that it was a good feeling to have penned a contract with Watford for the remainder of the 2013/14 Championship season.
