Watford boss Malky Mackay wants to extend the loan of Arsenal winger Henri Lansbury.
His loan is due to expire on December 31 but Hornets boss Malky Mackay sees Lansbury as a key part of his plans.
Watford, who took out a £1million loan from chairman Jimmy Russo last week, are so hard-up they cannot afford Lansbury's £750-a-week wages.
So they will go cap in hand to Arsene Wenger and ask the Gunners to stump up £375-a-week to keep the England Under-21 star until May.
Lansbury said: "I'm hoping to stay here. I'm enjoying the football and Watford are a strong side who play good football.
"I've just got to sort it out with Arsenal and then come here for the rest of the season.
"It's been a big step for me to play in the Championship and settle in with the boys."
