Watford boss Mackay on Burnley shortlist

Watford boss Malky Mackay is being linked with the manager's job at Burnley.

The Scottish Sun says Mackay is understood to be on the list of potential successors to replace Coyle at Turf Moor.

At 37, Mackay fits the profile of the young dynamic, cash-conscious boss that Burnley chairman Barry Kilby is looking for.

But it is the ex-Celtic stopper's impressive firefighting job at Vicarage Road in his first season as a boss, when the club came close to going bust, that has caught the eye.

Mackay has built an attractive side with little cash, using loan signings like Tom Cleverley from Manchester United and Henri Lansbury from Arsenal.

Coyle overcame Burnley's £5million debt when he was recruited from St Johnstone in 2007 and Mackay has kept Watford afloat on and off the pitch this season.
