Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has praised Alexis Sanchez for his opening goal in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat of Southampton on Wednesday night.

The Chilean, who has recently been linked with a move away from the club, scored a classy goal to break the deadlock to help a valuable three points for the Gunners. The win at St. Mary's ensures that Arsenal remain in the hunt for a top four finish.

Speaking after the match, Wenger said on Alexis's finish: "The goal he scored tonight shows what he's about.

"Very good technique in a short space. He scores important goals."
