Warnock to depart Leeds United if Premier League promotion is unachieved

Neil Warnock says he will leave his role as manager if Leeds United fail to achieve promotion to the Premier League this season.

Fans have been calling for Warnock's head recently, especially after the weekend's 4-0 FA Cup loss to Manchester City, but he insists he will no longer be at the helm of the Elland Road club who sits 12th on the Championship if they cannot gain promotion.

"I won't be here next year if we don't get promotion," said Warnock. "So it's not rocket science, we've got to keep looking at the picture and going for it in every game now.

"I have spoken to the owners about the future. I've said all along that I want to get promotion and nothing has changed. If I don't get promotion I won't be here next season, so I can't be fairer than that.

"It's not like I've signed a 10-year contract. I didn't want a long contract, I just wanted one year to have a go at it and, while we've got an opportunity, we've got to give it a go.

"We haven't had the consistency that we have needed but we have had opportunities to be up there, so it's our own doing and we've just got to get on with it now."
