Ward sees Wolves defensive capabilities as key to survival

Stephen Ward believes Wolves’ survival hopes will be dictated by their defensive resilience, reports the Birmingham Mail.

The Molineux midfielder claims the battling draw against Newcastle epitomised Wolves’ qualities this season.

He also feels that the club’s strikers, Steven Fletcher, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Kevin Doyle, will have enough goals to ensure Wolves’ survival.

“Overall, as a team, I think we’ve defended quite well and looked solid,” said Ward.

“We’re going to have to be like that as well.

“It’s important to be able to keep things tight and solid and try and keep a clean sheet because then there’s always the possibility to nick one or two goals and get the result.

“With the competition we’ve got in the strikers now we know they are proven goalscorers.

“Every day in training you can see how much they love scoring goals and there’s also a good relationship between them all pushing each other all the way.

“They are all happy for each other when they do well for the team.

“That’s also credit to the gaffer for the type of players he brings in.”
