Ward-Prowse converts as England U21s kick off Euro2017 qualifying campaign

The England U21 side began their Euro2017 qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Norway on Monday.

Gareth Southgate's Young Lions got the job done in Drammen courtesy of a James Ward-Prowse penalty on the stroke of half-time.

Jonas Gronner brought down Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond in the area before Southampton midfielder Ward-Prowse stepped up to the spot to beat Norway keeper Sondre Rossbach.

It was a solid start for Southgate's new-look side which fielded the likes of Joe Gomez, Jordon Ibe and Dele Alli and next take on Kazakhstan at home on October 13 in their next Group 9 outing.
