Ward leaves Melbourne Victory for Wellington Phoenix

Nick Ward has left Melbourne Victory to sign a deal with Wellington Phoenix, effective immediately.

The 25-year old midfielder has spent the past two-and-a-half years with the Victory but has decided to move on after falling out of favour in recent times.

Ward, who returned to Australia from the UK in 2007, said the chance to join the Phoenix was one he couldn't turn down.

"I'm sad to be leaving Melbourne but the prospect of first-team football at the Phoenix was obviously very appealing," he said.

"I want to be playing week in, week out and I feel I have a better chance of regular football with Wellington.

"I've enjoyed my time in Melbourne and met some great people along the way. We're parting on good terms and I wish the guys the best of luck for the rest of the season."
