Western Sydney Wanderers star Mateo Poljak has revealed that Mark Viduka was one of his idols when he was younger.
The 23-year old Croatian midfielder grew up watching the former Celtic, Leeds United and Middlesbrough striker when he was banging in goals for Croatia Zagreb back in the mid-1990s and admits it is an honour to now be playing in the former Socceroo stars backyard.
"I was a big fan of Mark Viduka because he was one of my idols when I was a kid," Poljak told reporters.
"Viduka was a big name in Croatia back then and later in Britain and I would have been a ballboy in many of his matches in Zagreb.
"He was part of a good generation for Croatia Zagreb and I always dreamed of becoming like him.
"I could have bumped into him a few times but it never happened. So I would very much like to meet him, that's for sure.
"I know many people who are friends of his and one of his team-mates, Goran Juric, was later my coach at Dinamo so I'm sure we would have plenty to talk about."
