Ross Wallace was delighted for Sunderland teammate Kenwyne Jones after his goal on debut in Saturday's defeat of Reading.

The 22-year-old gave the Reading defence a torrid time in his first outing at the Stadium of Light to suggest that the £6million invested in his services was money well spent.

Wallace told the Sunderland Echo: "Kenwyne did well. He's a big strong guy and it is good for us as a side to have that sort of target.

"You know he's going to hold the ball up and if we can get players around him, then he could be important for us this season."
