Walker happy for Kane over sudden Spurs success

Tottenham fullback Kyle Walker is delighted for Harry Kane over his success this season.

More than three years have passed since Walker began the 2011/12 season as an inexperienced top-flight player, only to end it the PFA Young Player of the Year and an England international. Such a quick rise places Walker in an ideal position to assess the achievements of Harry Kane, who started the campaign as Spurs's third-choice striker but is now Mauricio Pochettino's key player.

"Back then I had to keep a level head because if I hadn't, my mum would have been straight down the M1 from Sheffield, telling me, 'Who do you think you are?' Walker reveals to the London Evening Standard. "My girlfriend would have brought me back down to earth as well.

"Harry's head is not going to run away. He's a down-to-earth guy and he's professional. Nothing has changed. He is still the same person. When Andros Townsend scored the goal for England that helped them qualify for the 2014 World Cup, he stayed level-headed and the other youngsters, like Harry, Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, will do the same.

"There might come a time when Harry doesn't score for a few games and people will ask why, and what has changed about his game. You have to be mentally strong and although I don't know him thoroughly well as a person, I think he has the mental strength to cope."
