Wales captain Williams defends Chelsea kid Ampadu after Dolberg retaliation

Wales captain Ashley Williams has defended teammate Ethan Ampadu after his clash with Denmark striker Kasper Dolberg.

Ampadu barged into Ajax striker Dolberg in an aerial duel moments after the Dane had been booked for a bad foul that sent the Chelsea player into advertising hoardings.

Ampadu coolly walked away after putting Dolberg on the turf, receiving a caution himself, as both sets of players engaged in a melee and Ryan Giggs and Aage Hareide exchanged heated words on the touchline.

"I think he got assassinated first and foremost," replied Williams after the 2-1 defeat. "You can't shove someone into the barrier like that.

"It was brilliant, it was perfect, he didn't lose his head. They were leaving a bit on us we were leaving a bit on them.

"I just think that once you foul somebody so many times and try to influence the ref we're going to do something about it. It was nice to see all the boys sticking up for each other and the young lads looking after themselves."
