Wales boss Toshack happy with Forest move for Tottenham's Gunter

Wales boss John Toshack is happy to see Tottenham defender Chris Gunter getting some first team football under his belt.

The 19-year-old defender found himself sidelined at Tottenham and has been farmed out on loan to Nottingham Forest, where he made his debut at the weekend in a 5-0 defeat at Burnley.

But, with World Cup qualifiers at home to Finland and Germany on March 28 and April 1 respectively, Toshack just wants to see Gunter playing matches.

He said: "Gunter is at least playing regularly now. He was on the wrong end of a hammering at Burnley last weekend but I would rather he was playing after what has happened to him at Spurs.

"I'm not concerned that he has gone to Forest, who are struggling a bit. Players have to make these decisions and I just want to see him getting regular matches, and he is at a level in the Championship where we have several of our players performing.

"He obviously feels that it is in his interest that he does play matches between now and the end of the season.

"At Spurs it looks like neither Chris or Gareth Bale are going to get much game-time for the rest of this season.

"The last time we were together as a squad, Chris talked to me about what he should do because there were a few offers of loans for him.

"My advice was to talk to his club manager and then make a decision. But it is better for us that our lads are playing regularly."
