Wales boss Gary Speed wants Derby County veteran Robbie Savage to return to the international ranks - in a non-playing capacity.
Savage, 36, wants to come out of retirement and has offered his services to new national boss Speed.
Rookie manager Speed is expected to turn down Savage's approach and show his faith in Wales' youthful squad.
But Savage will be invited to rally the Dragons as a motivational speaker ahead of Speed's first competitive game - the Euro 2012 qualifier with England in Cardiff on March 26.
A source close to Speed told the Daily Mail: "Robbie is a character and he's Welsh through and through.
"Even if he didn't come back as a player then maybe there's room for him just to come down on a match day and tell some jokes.
"That's not being disrespectful to him because he's a great lad and very passionate. We just need more of those people about the squad."
