Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has convinced Theo Walcott to stay by promising him a striker's role this season.

The Daily Star says Wenger tempted Walcott in crunch talks yesterday by telling the winger he was ready to try him as a central striker.

Walcott has made no secret of his burning desire to play down the middle, speaking about it on numerous occasions.

The England star, 23, has impressed Wenger with his finishing in training, ironically having a sensationally good session on Tuesday, the day news broke about contract talks stalling.
