Walcott delighted to prove Everton matchwinner: Very satisfying. Sam now my manager

Everton matchwinner Theo Walcott was delighted with his goal in victory over Newcastle United.

Walcott struck on Monday night to secure a 1-0 win.

He said afterwards: "It's very satisfying. We were under a lot of pressure at the end but we held on and did the job.

"I have to say Seamus Coleman's defensive header at the end was just as good as my goal. Everyone did their defensive jobs. Everyone was behind us and it was good to get the three points after some disappointing results.

"I have scored a lot of goals on the left side and sometimes you can be isolated up front by yourself so I think you'll see me on the left a lot more now. I'm pretty sure about that.

"It's been hit and miss this season but it' just getting to know the balance and the way we want to play. You expect to be higher up in the table but it's just been one of those seasons."

On his former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has announced his departure, Walcott added: "He is a fantastic man, a fantastic manager and I can't thank him enough for what he has done for me. I want to work hard for Sam now. It was a well-fought battle tonight."
