Wagner: ‘Never a possibility’ of following Klopp to Liverpool

David Wagner has made it clear that it was never in his plans to follow Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool.

Rumours were rife that the 44-year-old was set to reunite with his former Mainz teammate at Anfield having worked closely together at Borussia Dortmund.

But Wagner opted to follow his own path and instead took his first senior management role with Huddersfield Town in November 2015, not long after Klopp had been appointed as Liverpool's new boss.

“That was never a possibility," he told the Daily Mail.

“I am my own man and my own manager."

It proved to be a clever move as the Terriers currently sit top of the Championship table after a strong start to the new season which has included eight wins form their 11 league outings.
