Waghorn inspired by Henderson success at Sunderland

Back from his loan with Leicester City, Martyn Waghorn hopes to follow former Academy teammate Jordan Henderson into the Sunderland first team this season.

But he is realistic and knows his task will be far from easy.

"Jordan did fantastically well last year," Waghorn told safc.com. "He did the same as me - went out and had a successful loan spell. Then he came back, got his chance in pre-season, took it and he's never looked back.

"He had a fantastic season, playing 30-odd games, and that's what you want, isn't it?

"If I can do anything near that that would be brilliant, but we are different players playing in different positions.

"If I can do a job for the team I'll be more than happy."
