Wage demands cause Burnley to drop Kilgallon pursuit

Burnley have confirmed they were interested in signing Sheffield United's Matthew Kilgallon but were unwilling to match his wage demands. The Clarets were given permission to speak to the former Leeds United defender earlier this week after their £1.75million offer was accepted by the Blades.

"Burnley Football Club can confirm an interest in signing Sheffield United central defender Matthew Kilgallon," read a statement on the club's official website.

"However, the club is not prepared to meet the agent's excessive wage demands for his player.

"Contrary to a national newspaper report, the club has no intention of breaking its wage structure and disrupting the togetherness of a united squad.

"Burnley Football Club will instead look elsewhere for reinforcements."
