Former Marseille midfielder Chris Waddle has questioned the impact of QPR midfielder Joey Barton at his old club.

Waddle has reservations over the impact the former Newcastle star has made on French football.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "Joey has done all right but he has not pulled up any trees.

"He has been Steady Eddie, that is all.

"Barton is a good player but is he as great as he thinks he is? When you have to talk up your own ability you have a problem.

"Joey does a lot of talking on Twitter, a lot of it controversial, but that is the way he is.

"It is how he keeps a high profile back here.

"What happens to him at the end of the season will be interesting. Will Marseille look to keep him, perhaps on loan again, or will QPR take him back into the fold?

"One thing is certain - his wages will be a huge deterrent to both clubs."
