Former Tottenham and Marseille star Chris Waddle feels Paul Scholes decision to quit retirement has lifted his Manchester United teammates like no other player could.
The Geordie explained in his column for the People: "Looking at Scholes, 37, in that game against City, he looked confident and composed.
"He was always Option A in the closing part of the game when United had lost their way and needed some control.
"I always thought Scholes jumped the gun retiring because the way he plays, using brain rather than brawn, means he's got plenty of football left in him.
"That's probably been eating away at him since August. He must have known he could still do a job and, just like Fergie when he decided to retire from management several years ago, Scholes soon knew he'd made a mistake.""What struck me most was that the other United players like Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney were desperate to give him the ball.
