Waddle can't see England producing another like Spurs, Newcastle legend Gazza

Geordie legend Chris Waddle doesn't believe England will ever produce another player like former Newcastle and Tottenham star Paul Gascoigne.

Waddle told the Evening Chronicle: "I am a great believer in players with raw skill. It is not encouraged now, and that is sad in this country.

"It is coached out of them and it is all about two-touch footballers - there is a lack of individual players in the great sides now.

"You look at players like Henry and Ronaldo who have been two of the best players in the Premier League in recent times.

"We are going to other leagues and other countries to buy them, they are producing them for us now. England no longer produces those sort of players.

"We used to and the other leagues came to us.

"I went to Marseille, Gazza played in Serie A and Glenn Hoddle went to Monaco.

"Then you had people like John Barnes, who I am sure could have played abroad, and without a shadow of doubt Peter Beardsley."
