Vukovic joins Wellington Phoenix

Wellington Phoenix have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Danny Vuikovic.

The 25-year old former Central Coast Mariners stopper will join the New Zealand club for the remainder of the 2010/11 season after having his deal with Turkish club Konyaspor terminated recently.

Vukovic left the Mariners for Konyaspor in June but was released just over a week ago without making a first team appearance and he has now landed on his fee, with the Phoenix handing him a deal to join Mark Paston and Griffin McMaster in the goalkeeping ranks at Westpac Stadium.

"It's great to have Danny onboard and he significantly boosts our goalkeeping stocks," said Phoenix head coach Ricki Herbert.

"The competition for the starting goalkeeper's spot is obviously going to be quite intense now. We've got an in-form keeper from the World Cup in Mark Paston, an Australian international in Danny and an upcoming young keeper in Reece Crowther.

"Danny's not coming here content to be number two - he'll be pushing for that starting spot."
