Vokes urges Wolves boss McCarthy to take Carling Cup seriously

Wolves striker Sam Vokes has urged manager Mick McCarthy to take the Carling Cup seriously this season.

"The Carling Cup is still a big competition and there's a Wembley final at the end of it," the Wales international said.

"Over the last few years, when you look at the finals some of the big teams have been involved which shows just how people still take the competition seriously.

"We are exactly the same and even if the gaffer does change things around, it will be still a team of senior first-team players.

"We've got a decent-sized squad now, so a lot of the first-team boys who haven't been starting so far will be keen to be involved. It would be nice to have a run in the competition and there's no reason why we shouldn't, but we know that we will have to play well to get through."
