Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar feels they have the options to change tactics during games.
Villa meet Tottenham this weekend.
"We try to play football and I think we have the qualities to do that," said Vlaar. "But sometimes you don't want to get under pressure and it is easier to play for the second ball and to squeeze up from behind.
"We can do that as well, with Christian Benteke and with Libor Kozak. There are times when it's good to have possession. I think we can do both and that's very important.
"Of course it is good to vary your tactics. You want to try to get your opponents on the back foot."
