New York Red Bull came back from an early two-goal deficit to defeat Toronto FC, 3-2, at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. As with many pre-season games against fellow MLS teams the structure is very different to a full 90 minute game. The teams played four, 25-minute periods and Toronto jumped in front on 13 minutes from a Pablo Vitti goal. Chad Barrett quickly doubled the lead for Toronto with a 25 yard shot that beat New York Keeper Danny Cepero.
New York were able to start their comeback following a Dwayne De Rosario handball in the area and John Wolyniec converted the resulting penalty. Following continued pressure in the second half New York's Matthew Mbuta drew the teams level nearing the end of the match.
With cross border bragging rights looking like they would be shared Mbuta was tripped in the penalty area and Lionel Saint-Preux scored from the spot giving New York the victory.
New York Red Bull face Seattle Sounders in Washington march 19th in the MLS opening match of the season.
