Vitesse coach Slutsky: I told Marina we needed to have senior Chelsea players

Vitesse Arnhem coach Leonid Slutsky admits he put his foot down when discussing loan players with Premier League partners Chelsea.

Slutsky is close to Chelsea management and their owner Roman Abramovich.

"For Vitesse I wanted to have reinforcements from Chelsea. Senior players," he told De Gelderlander. "I have spoken a lot with Marina (Granovskaia). Direct lines are so handy. I told her that I did not want youth players. I did not want any talent for a first loan adventure. I wanted guaranteed quality.

"Players with some experience. That makes Vitesse stronger."

As a result of his conversations, the experienced goalkeeper Eduardo, Jake Clarke-Salter and Charly Musonda from Chelsea came to the GelreDome.

"They bring all three high quality. Eduardo is a top goalkeeper for the Premier League. Jake knows what is required in top football. And Charly really can do a lot. That is why I now also suffer enormously from his injury."
